If you’re a serious record collector, then you might want to skip this article as recycling old LPs into gift ideas by cutting, folding, and melting them might be too much for your heart to handle. However, even if you have a love for listening to old vinyl records, there’s probably quite a few artists who released records that you wouldn’t mind seeing melted into a chip bowl? How about a Milli Vanilli vinyl ashtray?

Let’s get to the recycled vinyl gift ideas!

IPOD CASE:

Analog meets digital, and this is a great example of how recycling old materials can be unique, stylish, and cool. Not only will you be unable to find anything these at your local stores, but the guys who make these will customize an order for you. Choose your favorite record, and you’ll get a one-of-a-kind recycled 45 iPod case.

VINYL RECORD SILHOUETTES:

What a marvelous idea! Contemporary artist, Carlos Aires has created a set of beautiful silhouettes that are cut from vinyl records. The ones featured above are only a few of several that he has created.

BOWLS AND SNACK TRAYS:

How cool would these be for a retro-theme costume party? Produced by Vinylux, Each of these are made from one vinyl record and maintain the look/feel of the original record with the hole being sealed. The unfortunate part of using these is that it is only safe for dry items, and you can’t microwave them or toss in the dishwasher after the party. Of course, that’s less water, less power, and a lot greener! Vinylux also sells many other products created from recycled vinyl records.

RECYCLED CARRYING CASE FOR YOUR MUSIC:

Do you have a lot of 45s lying around the house? If you need storage cases, buy recycled records to hold your records! This carrying case was handmade from one LP sleeve with the gatefold art used on the inside. You can store up to forty 45s in this case, or use it for something else! The same seller also makes the same style recycled record cases that will hold 12 standard CD cases (picture on the right above).

RECYCLED VINYL RECORD PORTRAITS:

Artist, Daniel Edlen adds new life to old records by hand painting a portrait of the artist on the vinyl itself. Complete with the original LP sleeve behind the vinal art, he packages them in a black metal frame to sell to his customers. He’s open to receiving custom orders as well! Cool records. I have a grandfather who has 1000’s literally. He is trying to get rid of them (he wants to go through and just throw them out but we are trying to sell them), maybe we can sell them to some of these recycle artist guys.

    Cool article, consider it stumbled.

    Hey Coach!

Cool! But wait! I might want some of those albums!

You sure you don’t want to attempt to make one of of these ideas yourself out of some of your grandfather’s records? ;)

These recycled records are awesome… You can easily make a record ashtray by putting a record on top of a glass ashtray and leaving it on a hot radiator for a while. Obviously you need to plug the little hole!!!!

    Great post :)

    Hey Kat,

If he’s a collector he might not like the idea of “melting his records”. ;)
